The history of Shivamogga dates back to ancient times, having been ruled by various dynasties such as the Kadambas, Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Hoysalas, and Vijayanagara Empire. Later, it was under the rule of the Keladi Nayakas before coming under British control. The city has preserved its cultural richness with classical art forms, traditional folk dances, and historical temples.
