Opened in 2012 in Chennai, ITC Grand Chola is a premier luxury hotel designed as a tribute to the Chola Dynasty's golden era. Built on eight acres by ITC Hotels, it features Dravidian-inspired architecture, including a Sangam lobby and intricate granite carvings. The hotel is renowned for its immense scale and as a premier destination for large events.

Key Historical Aspects of ITC Grand Chola:

  • Origin & Land Acquisition: ITC Limited purchased the 8-acre land on Anna Salai, formerly the Campa Cola campus, in 2000 for ₹800 million.
  • Design & Inspiration: The hotel is designed to emulate the architectural marvels of the Chola dynasty, incorporating elements of temple architecture and royal durbars.
  • Architectural Features: The design features extensive use of white stucco in the Sangam lobby, a Grand Staircase designed as the "Wheel of Life," and intricate bronze/copper horse sculptures, per Hotelier India.
  • Themed Facade: The exterior features a prominent elephant motif repeated across more than 500 parts of the facade.
  • Growth & Milestones: Inaugurated in 2012, the hotel quickly established itself as a landmark in Chennai, often referred to as a "destination within a city" due to its vast size and comprehensive amenities.
