All India Institute of Ayurveda
The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in New Delhi, established by the Ministry of Ayush, is a premier institute inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi on October 17, 2017, to blend traditional Ayurveda with modern diagnostic techniques. Modelled after AIIMS, the 10-acre campus houses a 200-bed hospital and focuses on postgraduate education, advanced research, and high-quality AYUSH healthcare.
Here is the story of AIIA:
- Origin and Vision: The proposal was born from a 2000 declaration by former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee to establish a world-class National Ayurveda Hospital. It was conceptualized to be the apex institute for Ayurveda research, safety evaluation, and quality standards.
- Development: The cornerstone was laid in 2007 following approval from the Ministry of Finance in 2003, with the goal of creating a "Role Model" for Ayurvedic education and research.
- Establishment: The institute was finally operationalized and inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi in 2017. It operates under the Ministry of Ayush, which has provided robust support to establish its global relevance.
- Key Features & Research: The AIIA offers a 200-bed referral hospital, including specialty clinics for Neurological & Degenerative Diseases, Rheumatology, and Diabetes. It emphasizes scientific validation of Ayurvedic medicines and operates with a "care with compassion" approach.
- Impact: Since its opening, the AIIA has provided care to millions through its Delhi campus and expanded to a second campus in Goa, hosting dozens of national and international MoUs for research collaboration.
The institute has quickly grown into a hub for medical value travel, attracting international interest in authentic Ayurveda, and continues to expand its reach with new projects and digital initiatives.
