Established in 2020 in Jamnagar, Gujarat, the Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA) is the first "Institute of National Importance" under the Ministry of AYUSH, focusing on high-level Ayurvedic education, research, and healthcare. Formed by amalgamating the IPGT&RA, Shree Gulabkunverba Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, and the Indian Institute of Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical Sciences, it represents over 50 years of combined Ayurvedic tradition and innovation. 

Key Aspects of the ITRA Story:

• Establishment & Status: The Indian Parliament passed the ITRA Act in 2020 to establish this premier institution, bringing together three premier, closely located institutions to boost global standards in Ayurveda.
• The Merged Institutions:
  • IPGT & RA (1956): A pioneering center for advanced Ayurvedic studies.
  • Shree Gulabkunverba Ayurved Mahavidyalaya (1946): One of the oldest undergraduate colleges in India.
  • Indian Institute of Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical Sciences: A specialized institution for pharmaceutics and drug research.
• Legacy: The institute is deeply rooted in Jamnagar's history as a center for Ayurvedic excellence, dating back to 1940's efforts by the Jam Saheb of Nawanagar to promote the traditional medicine system.
• Global Impact: ITRA conducts in-depth studies and research, offering courses to students from all over the world. It has been visited by international delegations, including those from the WHO, to explore Ayurvedic drug research and clinical practices.
• Modern Focus: ITRA focuses on developing AI-ready, modern Ayurvedic practitioners while conducting extensive, in-depth research on herbals and pharmaceutical sciences. 

ITRA now operates as a specialized university offering comprehensive Ayurveda training and research facilities, aiming to lead in the field of Ayush.
