Patanjali Yogpeeth

Patanjali Yogpeeth, located in Haridwar, is one of India's largest yoga and ayurveda research institutions, founded in 2006 by Swami Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna to promote ancient Indian sciences. It acts as the heart of their massive wellness and herbal products empire (Patanjali Ayurved), combining traditional Yoga, Ayurveda, and Panchkarma therapies with modern diagnostic research.

Key aspects of the story include:

  • Foundation: Established under the Divya Yog Mandir Trust (founded 1995) to institutionalize the yoga revolution initiated by Swami Ramdev through his TV camps.
  • Objectives: The institute focuses on establishing gurukuls (traditional schools), conducting research on Yoga and Ayurveda, and operating charitable hospitals.
  • Expansion: Patanjali Yogpeeth-I was commissioned in 2006, followed by Patanjali Yogpeeth-II, creating a sprawling facility for yoga education, medicinal plant research, and a vast OPD center.
  • Research & Education: The campus houses Patanjali Ayurveda College and the Patanjali Research Foundation (founded 2010), which investigates traditional medicine's effect on diseases.
  • Mission: The goal is to make Yoga and Ayurveda a lifestyle, providing free or affordable treatment to the poor and promoting a holistic lifestyle.

The institution has grown into a major hub that blends spiritual, medical, and commercial endeavors based on Swadeshi (indigenous) principles, serving millions globally.
