Aalo (formerly Along) is a scenic town in West Siang district, Arunachal Pradesh. It is well-connected by road and air, but requires careful planning as it is a remote destination.

 

1️ By Air (Nearest Airport)

Aalo does not have its own airport, but you can fly to the nearest airports and travel by road.

 Nearest Airports:

 Pasighat Airport (100 km from Aalo) (Recommended)

  • Small airport with limited flights from Guwahati (Alliance Air).
  • From Pasighat, take a taxi or shared Sumo taxi to Aalo (~4 hours).

 Dibrugarh Airport (Mohanbari) – 270 km from Aalo

  • Best option for travelers from major cities like Delhi, Kolkata, and Guwahati.
  • From Dibrugarh, cross the Brahmaputra River by ferry and take a taxi to Aalo (~8-9 hours).

 Lilabari Airport (North Lakhimpur, Assam) – 210 km from Aalo

  • Limited flights from Guwahati.
  • From Lilabari, take a taxi or shared vehicle to Aalo (~7-8 hours).

 

2️ By Train (Nearest Railway Station)

 Murkongselek Railway Station (130 km from Aalo) – Assam

  • Nearest railhead, well-connected to Guwahati and other Assam towns.
  • From Murkongselek, take a taxi or shared Sumo to Aalo (~5-6 hours).

 Dibrugarh Railway Station (270 km from Aalo)

  • A major rail hub with trains from Delhi, Kolkata, and Guwahati.
  • From Dibrugarh, travel by road via ferry and highway.

 

3️ By Road (Best Option for Travel to Aalo)

Aalo is well connected by road to Pasighat, Itanagar, and Dibrugarh. The journey is scenic, passing through lush forests, hanging bridges, and river valleys.

 Best Routes to Aalo:

 From Pasighat (100 km, ~4 hours) (Recommended Route)

  • Route: Pasighat Pangin Aalo (NH-515).
  • Smooth roads, beautiful landscapes along the Siyom River.

 From Itanagar (310 km, ~10 hours)

  • Route: Itanagar Naharlagun Ziro Daporijo Aalo.
  • Long but scenic journey through hills and valleys.

 From Dibrugarh (270 km, ~8-9 hours)

  • Route: Dibrugarh Ferry across Brahmaputra Jonai Pasighat Aalo.
  • Ferry crossing adds adventure, but road conditions can vary.

 From Murkongselek (130 km, ~5-6 hours)

  • Route: Murkongselek Jonai Pasighat Aalo.
  • Shared Sumo taxis available from Murkongselek railway station.

 

 Transport Options

Private Taxi: Best for comfort; available from Pasighat, Itanagar, and Dibrugarh.
Shared Sumo Taxis: Available from Pasighat and Itanagar, cheaper but less comfortable.
APST Buses: Limited services from Itanagar and Pasighat to Aalo.

 

 Inner Line Permit (ILP) Requirement

  • Indian citizens need an ILP to enter Arunachal Pradesh.
  • Apply Online: Arunachal Pradesh ILP Portal
  • Foreign tourists require a Protected Area Permit (PAP).

 

Travel Tips for Aalo

Best Time to Visit: October to April (pleasant weather, no landslides).
Avoid Monsoon (June–September): Heavy rains can cause landslides and roadblocks.
Carry Cash: Limited ATMs in Aalo, withdraw money in Pasighat or Itanagar.
Book Transport in Advance: Sumo taxis fill up fast, especially in peak seasons.
