Manali is well-connected by road and air, but does not have its own railway station. Here’s how you can reach this beautiful hill station:

 

1. By Air (Fastest Route)

  • Nearest Airport: Bhuntar Airport (Kullu-Manali Airport) – 50 km from Manali.
  • Flights Available From: Delhi, Chandigarh.
  • Major Airlines: Alliance Air, IndiGo, SpiceJet.
  • From the Airport to Manali:
    ✔ Hire a private taxi (1.5-hour drive).
    ✔ Take a bus from Bhuntar to Manali.

Alternative Airports:

  • Chandigarh International Airport (300 km, 8 hours by road) – More flight options.

 Tip: Flights to Bhuntar are limited, so Chandigarh Airport is a better option.

 

2. By Train (Most Scenic Route)

Nearest Railway Stations:

  • Joginder Nagar Railway Station (162 km from Manali) – A narrow-gauge station with limited connectivity.
  • Chandigarh Railway Station (300 km from Manali) – The best option with regular trains from Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata.

How to Travel from Chandigarh to Manali?

✔ Take a bus or taxi (8-10 hours journey).

 Tip: No direct train to Manali, so take a train to Chandigarh and continue by road.

 

3. By Road (Most Convenient)

a) Distance & Travel Time

Delhi to Manali: 530 km (~12-14 hours).
Chandigarh to Manali: 300 km (~8 hours).
Shimla to Manali: 250 km (~7 hours).
Dharamshala to Manali: 216 km (~6 hours).

b) Bus Services

HRTC & Private Volvo Buses run daily from Delhi (ISBT Kashmiri Gate) and Chandigarh (ISBT Sector 43).
✔ Comfortable overnight Volvo buses available from Delhi to Manali.
✔ Buses stop at Manali Bus Stand, from where taxis or local transport are available.

c) Self-Drive & Taxi

✔ The Delhi-Manali NH-3 highway offers a scenic but long drive.
✔ You can hire a taxi from Delhi, Chandigarh, or Shimla for a direct ride.

 Tip: Avoid night driving in monsoon due to fog and landslides.

 

Which Option to Choose?

Fastest: Fly to Bhuntar Airport and take a taxi.
Most Scenic: Take a train to Chandigarh, then drive to Manali.
Most Convenient: Volvo bus or taxi from Delhi/Chandigarh.
Best for Road Trips: Self-drive from Delhi, Chandigarh, or Shimla.
