 Location:

  • Rangpo is a town located in the Pakygong district of Sikkim, India.
  • It lies right at the border between Sikkim and West Bengal.
  • Situated along the banks of the Teesta River.
  • Acts as the gateway to Sikkim — almost all vehicles entering Sikkim from Siliguri/West Bengal pass through Rangpo.

  • Roadways: Well-connected via National Highway NH-10 (Siliguri-Gangtok Highway).
  • Nearest Airport: Pakyong Airport (about 25 km away); Bagdogra Airport (around 75 km) is another option.
  • Nearest Railway Station: New Jalpaiguri (NJP) in West Bengal, around 70 km away.
  • New Rail Project: The Rangpo Railway Station (under construction) will connect Sikkim with the national railway network for the first time.

  • Entry Point Checkpost: Vehicles entering Sikkim from Bengal have to register at Rangpo Checkpost.
  • Commercial Hub: Many industries (especially pharmaceutical companies) are based around Rangpo.
  • Industrial Estate: One of Sikkim’s biggest industrial zones is near Rangpo — major companies like Cipla, Sun Pharma, and Zydus have plants nearby.
  • Teesta Bridge: A crucial bridge connects Rangpo with the rest of the country across the mighty Teesta River.

  • Located at the foothills of the Himalayas, surrounded by hills and rivers.
  • Pleasant climate with lots of greenery around.
  • Nearby areas like Majitar, Bardang, and Tadong are rich in natural beauty.

 

 Climate:

  • Summer (March–May): Mild and pleasant, temperatures around 10°C to 25°C.
  • Monsoon (June–September): Heavy rains; Teesta River becomes full and sometimes dangerous.
  • Winter (October–February): Cool to cold; temperature can drop to about 5°C.
