✔️ ATMs are available throughout the city but may run dry during festivals

Tip: Keep smaller denominations (₹10, ₹20, ₹50) for local transport and snacks.

 What to Pack

 Essentials include:

  • Light cotton clothes (breathable and comfy)
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses, and hat for beach or boat rides
  • Umbrella or raincoat if visiting during monsoon (June–Sept)
  • Mosquito repellent (especially near water bodies)
  • Water bottle – stay hydrated in humid weather

Tip: Pack a pair of modest clothes if visiting temples or rural villages.

 Temple Etiquette

Kollam has several ancient temples. If visiting:
✔️ Remove footwear before entering
✔️ Dress conservatively – cover shoulders and legs
✔️ Photography is often restricted inside
✔️ Maintain silence and respect rituals

Tip: Visit temples early in the morning to experience the calm spiritual energy.

 Food & Water Safety

✔️ Eat at clean and busy restaurants or stalls
✔️ Try local delicacies like Karimeen Pollichathu, tapioca & fish curry, and banana chips
✔️ Drink bottled or filtered water
✔️ Avoid raw salads or cut fruits from the roadside (especially in summer)

Tip: If you're not used to spicy food, ask for “less spice” (“Kurachu mulaku mathi” in Malayalam).

 Backwater & Boating Safety

✔️ Always wear life jackets during boat rides
✔️ Avoid boat rides during heavy rain or strong winds
✔️ Choose licensed boat operators and certified houseboats
✔️ Don’t lean out or switch seats on narrow canoes
