Portuguese Legacy: Daman and Diu were under Portuguese rule for over 450 years (from 1546 to 1961).3 This long colonial period has left a significant mark on the architecture, certain traditions, and even the cuisine.4 While Portuguese is no longer widely spoken, some elderly individuals may understand or speak it, and some Portuguese-based creole languages like Língua da Casa were once prevalent. The architectural style, particularly of churches and forts, clearly shows Portuguese influence.5
