Chhattisgarh’s land is broadly classified into three agro-climatic regions:

  • Chhattisgarh Plains (Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg) – Fertile and densely populated; major paddy belt
  • Northern Hills (Surguja, Jashpur, Koriya) – Cooler climate, higher elevation; ideal for spices and horticulture
  • Southern Plateau (Bastar, Dantewada, Kanker) – Tribal belt with red & lateritic soils; rich in forest-based agriculture
