Where is Odisha Located?

Odisha is located in eastern India, bordered by:

  • West Bengal to the northeast,
  • Jharkhand to the north,
  • Chhattisgarh to the west,
  • Andhra Pradesh to the south,
  • Bay of Bengal to the east, giving Odisha a long and scenic coastline.

The state covers 155,707 sq km, making it the 8th largest state in India by area. The capital city is Bhubaneswar, known as the Temple City of India. Odisha's terrain consists of coastal plains, rivers, plateaus, forests, and hills, making it a geographically diverse region.

Climate of Odisha

Odisha has a tropical monsoon climate, influenced by its coastal location. It experiences four distinct seasons:

  1. Summer (March – June)
    • Hot and humid with temperatures ranging from 30°C to 45°C.
    • Coastal areas like Puri and Gopalpur experience sea breezes, making them slightly cooler.
    • Not ideal for travel due to extreme heat.
  2. Monsoon (July – September)
    • Odisha receives heavy rainfall due to the southwest monsoon.
    • Lush green landscapes and full-flowing rivers make places like Chilika Lake and Simlipal National Park beautiful.
    • However, travel may be affected by flooding and cyclonic activity.
  3. Post-Monsoon (October – November)
    • Pleasant weather with temperatures between 20°C to 30°C.
    • A great time for festivals like Durga Puja, Diwali, and Konark Dance Festival.
  4. Winter (December – February)
    • The best time to visit Odisha, with cool and comfortable temperatures between 10°C and 25°C.
    • Ideal for exploring temples, beaches, wildlife sanctuaries, and hill stations like Daringbadi.
    • Puri Beach Festival and Rath Yatra preparations take place during this season.
