Where is Lakshadweep Located?

Lakshadweep is a group of 36 coral islands, atolls, and reef banks situated in the Arabian Sea, about 200 to 400 km off the southwestern coast of Kerala, India. It is India’s smallest Union Territory, covering an area of 32 sq. km, but its vast lagoon area spans over 4,200 sq. km.

The archipelago consists of 10 inhabited islands, 17 uninhabited islands, and several atolls and reefs. The main inhabited islands include:

  • Kavaratti (Capital)
  • Agatti
  • Bangaram
  • Minicoy
  • Kalpeni
  • Kadmat
  • Amini
  • Chetlat
  • Kiltan
  • Bitra

Lakshadweep’s islands are coral atolls, meaning they were formed by ancient volcanic activity and are surrounded by shallow lagoons with vibrant marine life.
