 Where Are the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Located?

The Andaman & Nicobar Islands are a group of 572 islands, islets, and rocks located in the Bay of Bengal, approximately 1,200 km from mainland India. The archipelago is divided into two major groups:

  1. Andaman Islands (North)
    • Includes popular islands like Port Blair, Havelock, Neil, Ross, and Baratang.
    • More developed, with better tourist infrastructure.
  2. Nicobar Islands (South)
    • Less accessible, inhabited mainly by indigenous tribes.
    • Protected and restricted for tourism to preserve its biodiversity and tribal heritage.

 Neighboring Countries:

  • Located between India (west) and Myanmar (north) and Thailand (east).
  • Port Blair, the capital, is the main gateway to the islands.

 

 Climate of Andaman & Nicobar Islands

The islands experience a tropical maritime climate, characterized by warm temperatures, high humidity, and seasonal monsoons.

Summer (March - May)

  • Temperature: 25°C - 35°C
  • Hot and humid, but ideal for water sports like scuba diving, snorkeling, and sea walking.

Monsoon (June - September)

  • Heavy rainfall with strong winds.
  • Not the best time for travel due to rough seas and limited outdoor activities.

Winter (October - February) – Best Time to Visit!

  • Temperature: 22°C - 30°C
  • Pleasant weather, calm seas, and clear skies.
  • Ideal for beach activities, sightseeing, and adventure sports.

 Best Time to Visit: October to May – Perfect for enjoying the islands' scenic beauty, water sports, and island-hopping experiences!
