Before Portuguese colonization, Goa had a rich Hindu temple culture. Many temples were destroyed, but some survived or were relocated.

a. Shri Mangueshi Temple

  • Location: Ponda
  • Deity: Lord Shiva (Manguesh)
  • Notable for: Elegant structure with a seven-story deepstambha (lamp tower)

b. Shri Shantadurga Temple

  • Location: Kavlem
  • Deity: Goddess Durga
  • Architecture: Blend of Indo-Portuguese design with a pyramidal roof and Roman-style windows

c. Shri Mahalasa Narayani Temple

  • Location: Mardol
  • Deity: Goddess Mahalasa (a form of Mohini)
  • Known for: Exquisite wooden carvings and tall lamp tower
