3. Colonial Rule & Tea Industry

Assam came under British rule in 1826 after the Treaty of Yandabo. The British introduced tea cultivation, making Assam the world’s largest tea-producing region. Jorhat and Dibrugarh became tea hubs, attracting British planters and laborers from different parts of India.
