How to Reach Nagaland?
1. By Air – Fastest & Most Convenient
Nearest Airport: Dimapur Airport (DMU)
- Only commercial airport in Nagaland, located near the Assam-Nagaland border.
- Direct flights available from:
✅ Kolkata (Daily flights)
✅ Guwahati
✅ Delhi (via Kolkata/Guwahati)
- From Dimapur Airport, take a taxi or shared cab to Kohima (75 km, ~3 hours).
Alternative Airports:
- Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport, Guwahati (Assam) – 300 km from Kohima
- Dibrugarh Airport (Assam) – 250 km from Nagaland’s eastern districts
2. By Train – Best for Budget Travelers
Nearest Railway Station: Dimapur Railway Station (DMV)
- The only railway station in Nagaland, well-connected to major cities.
- Major trains to Dimapur:
✅ Rajdhani Express (Delhi – Dimapur)
✅ Kamrup Express (Kolkata – Dimapur)
✅ Dibrugarh Express (Chennai/Bangalore – Dimapur)
From Dimapur: Hire a taxi/shared sumo to Kohima (75 km, ~3 hours).
Alternative Railway Station:
- Guwahati Railway Station (300 km away) – Take a train to Dimapur or a bus to Kohima.
3. By Road – Scenic but Long Journey
Nagaland is well-connected by roads to Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Manipur.
- From Guwahati to Kohima (370 km, 8-10 hours) – Take a night bus, shared sumo, or hire a taxi.
- From Dimapur to Kohima (75 km, 3 hours) – Best route for travelers flying to Dimapur.
- From Imphal to Kohima (140 km, 5 hours) – Scenic but rough roads.
Bus Services:
- Nagaland State Transport (NST) Buses operate from Dimapur, Kohima, and other districts.
- Private night buses from Guwahati to Kohima are available.
Shared Sumos (Jeeps) & Taxis:
- Best option for inter-city travel, available from Dimapur, Kohima, Mon, and Mokokchung.
- Faster and more convenient than buses, but can be bumpy.
Tip: Book tickets for Sumos in advance (especially during festivals).
