How to Reach Sikkim?

1. By Air – Fastest Way to Reach Sikkim

Nearest Airport: Pakyong Airport (PYG), Sikkim

  • Located 35 km from Gangtok, Sikkim’s only commercial airport.
  • Limited flights operate from Kolkata, Delhi, and Guwahati.
  • Alternative Airport: Bagdogra Airport (IXB), West Bengal (125 km from Gangtok).
  • More flight options available from major Indian cities.

 Best Option: If Pakyong flights are unavailable, land at Bagdogra Airport and take a taxi to Sikkim.

 Bagdogra to Gangtok Travel Options:

  • Private Taxi: ₹3,000 – ₹4,500 (4-5 hours).
  • Shared Jeep: ₹300 – ₹500 per person.
  • Helicopter Service: ₹3,500 per person (Bagdogra to Gangtok, 30 minutes – Limited seats).

 

2. By Train – Nearest Railway Stations to Sikkim

Nearest Major Railway Station:

  • New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Railway Station, West Bengal (120 km from Gangtok).

  • NH10 connects Siliguri/NJP/Bagdogra to Gangtok.

  • Landslides may affect road travel during monsoon (July-August).
