Gingee River (also known as Sankarabarani or Varahanadi): This is one of the major rivers in the Puducherry region. It traverses diagonally from the North-West to the South-East. It flows into the "Gingee Lake" (which is outside UT limits, in Tamil Nadu) and then its surplus flows into Veedur Dam. The surplus from Veedur Dam then enters Puducherry as Sankarabarani. The Guduvaiyar River is a tributary that joins the Sankarabarani near the Chunnambar Boat House, from where it's also sometimes called Chunnambar River before draining into the Bay of Bengal at Paradise Beach.
