• There has been a long-standing demand for these communities to be officially included in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list of the Indian Constitution, as their current classification (or lack thereof) limits their access to various government benefits and protections. The "Irular" community was included in the ST list in 2016, but recognition for others is still pending.
