This lesser-explored but ecologically significant wetland is a critical habitat for numerous migratory and resident bird species. A maiden bird census in Diu revealed over 108 species, including waterfowl, waders, raptors, and passerines. Notable sightings include Grey Plovers (now vulnerable), Curlew Sandpipers (vulnerable), and Turnstone (near threatened). Other species observed include songbirds, kingfishers, quail, pheasants, coots, pigeons, cuckoos, Grey and Redheaded Wagtail, Grey Tit, Bush-Larks, Red-Browed Tiger-Shrike, Black-Winged Kite, Paddyfield Pipit, Cliff Swallow, Bluethroat, Wryneck, Grey-Throated Green-Pigeon,1 and Citrine Wagtail.
